Michael Cropper, Sulzer Pumps Global Product Development Manager, has been named 2007 Member of the Year by The Hydraulic Institute, North America’s largest pump association and global authority on pumps and pumping systems, during it’s recent Annual Meeting.

Michael was chosen for his significant contributions to the Hydraulic Institute over the past four years. Since joining the association in 2003, he has driven the efforts to revise and expand the organization’s standard Rotodynamic (Centrifugal) Pumps Design and Application.

“Michael Cropper deserves this honor for his ongoing assistance to fellow committee members, achieving target milestones and managing the overall development of the document,” said Gregg Romanyshyn, technical director for the Hydraulic Institute. “Under his guidance, the standard has expanded from 92 to 200 pages and is now available for purchase at the HI e-Store.  This standard is essential for anyone who wants to learn more about rotodynamic pump design.  It includes centrifugal, mixed flow, and axial type pumps, regenerative turbines, and Pitot tube pumps.

In addition to his work on the Rotodynamic (Centrifugal) Pumps Design and Application subcommittee, Michael has helped chair and actively participated in numerous other organization initiatives. This includes co-chairing the Pump Applications Guidelines Committee and vice-chairing the Joint Centrifugal/Vertical Pumps and Vibration Committees. While working with the Technical Affairs, Driver & Driver Controls, Housing, Monitoring Devices, Viscosity Correction and Pump Efficiency Prediction Committees among others, he also served as a contributing reviewer on the Department of Energy (DOE) Improving Pumping System Performance: A Sourcebook for Industry.
