| Sulzer Pumps has received a large order from Alstom Power for pumps to be installed in the new Medupi coal fired power station, being built for Eskom, the South African national generator. The order includes a total of 48 pumps for boiler feed, booster, and condensate extraction duties. In addition to the manufacturing of the pumps, Sulzer’s scope encompasses the full project management of the pump modules, including the related equipment such as motors and couplings. The power station, the country’s first green field project for 20 years, will have an ultimate generating capacity of 4 790 megawatt. | |

Sulzer Pumps South Africa will project manage, manufacture, and test the pumps in its Johannesburg facility ensuring the highest possible project value is retained within South Africa. The pumps will be delivered in phases beginning in late 2009 to match the building of the six individual 798.3 megawatt power generating blocks that make up the station’s capacity. Final deliveries will be in mid 2011.
The company has a long tradition of manufacturing pumps in South Africa for the power generation, mining, water and refining sectors. The Johannesburg facility is fully equipped to engineer and manufacture a wide range of pumps to serve these markets. As part of a network of 14 Sulzer Pumps factories world wide, the facility is able to draw on the considerable resources of its sister plants if required.
