Sulzer Pumps offers advanced pumping solutions for the metallurgical refining of steel and non-ferrous metals, such as copper, zinc, nickel, alumina, aluminium, phosphatic and potassic fertilizers.

Key applications include demanding cooling water pumping in smelters, and corrosive or erosive liquids in hydrometallurgical processes, such as SX-EW processes, refining processes, nitric acid, phosphoric acid and multinutrient fertilizers.

If you have to pump both erosive and corrosive liquids and slurries containing solid particles, the AHLSTARTM WPP Wear Resistant Pump is the choice.

When using the ordinary centrifugal pumps, there will be local erosion and abrasion due to the hydraulic design of the impeller and the volute casing. All kinds of steps in and between the hydraulic parts cause turbulence and local erosion. The thin wall thicknesses and lack of renewable wearing parts in the ordinary centrifugal pumps cause a short life time.

We have found reliable operation of AHLSTARTM WPP Wear Resistant Pump in following industrial applications: Filtrate waters, glass fiber slurries, cement slurries, lime slurries, fiber cement slurries, chemical slurries, dirty cooling slurries, process slurries, lime milk, waste waters containing sand, scrubbing slurries, phosphoric acid slurries, ammonium nitrate and pigment slurries.

The AOD-method (AOD=Argon Oxygen Decarburization), which our own foundry have used, was originally developed for the treatment of stainless steels.

The stainless steels treated in the AOD converter have a low sulphur content. Sulphur and the MnS-Sulphides reduce the pitting potential thus acting as the starting spots for corrosion. The pitting potential is improved by means of the following elements: Cr, Mo and N.
