Worldwide Demand

The worldwide demand for clean, economical, efficient, energy has never been greater. All around the world, fossil fuel-fired power plants are generating electricity for homes and businesses, securing the economies of the 21st century. Fossil Power produces electricity by burning coal to produce heat in large boilers that generate steam that is converted to electricity by the power station’s steam turbine/electric generator . Globally, coal continues to be the fuel of preference for electric power generation and energy forecasts show that it will continue to dominate power production to the middle of the 21st century.

Industrial Power consists of electricity and steam generated by the general Industrial Sector primarily for their own consumption. Fuels can range from Natural Gas to Biomass Products, utilizing pumps for Boiler Feed, Cooling Water, Condensate, Auxiliaries and other processes. Power Generation units are running in industrial plants such as Pulp and Paper, Hydrocarbon Processing, Steel plants, Incineration, as well as Cogeneration plants for district heating.

Flue Gas Desulphurization

Statutory legislation limits SO2 emissions from large furnace plants. Since it is not always possible to reduce the harmful emission levels during the primary process, flue gas desulphurization plants are provided to achieve the required levels. In order to make such non productive plants as economic as possible, it is necessary to optimize the desulphurization procedure and to obtain an economic and useful by-product such as gypsum. Almost as important to the overall plant economy are the reliability and low maintenance costs of the pumps installed. Sulzer Pumps offers a wide range of products for flue gas desulphurization plants which are economical in operation and of high technical standing
